John Humphrey: Inducted 2011-12

It is a great honor to be selected to the Tartan Hockey Wall of Fame. Teaching the past 40 plus years at Eagle Point Elementary and coaching high school hockey have been extremely rewarding experiences for me. After playing high school hockey at St Paul Harding, I went on to play four years at the University of Wisconsin, River Falls. I received my degree in elementary education with a minor in coaching. My high school hockey-coaching career included positions at Simley, North St Paul, Burnsville and Tartan. During my many years of coaching, I’ve had very talented assistants but a couple of the special ones were Bernie Montero and John Lodahl. I’ve also had wonderful mentors along the way like Dennis Schueller and Bill Halbrehder who were so very helpful in my growth as a coach.
Some of my very best memories of Tartan Hockey include:Beating Hill Murray and St. Thomas in route to our first conference Hockey Championship, Winning back to back section titles 03/04 and 04/05, Winning our first State tournament game. Back to back seasons of 22 and 24 wins. Being selected by the State hockey coaches association as the high school hockey coach of the year 04/05 Maybe one of the best memories of all, as an educator/coach, has been watching hundreds of young people grow and become successful adults. I know that none of this would have been possible without the hard work of so many dedicated assistants and friends. There were so many contributors along the way. I want to thank the Tartan Area Youth Hockey Association and Blue Line Club members for all they’ve done to help support the High School program. I was also very blessed during my final years as a head coach to have Jim McElmury, Steve Romanchuk, Darin Johnson and Jay Moser on my staff. A staff that I feel was one of the best, if not the very best in high school hockey. Go Titans!

Jack O'Leary: Inducted January 2014
It is an honor to be selected to the Tartan High School Hockey Wall of Fame. Throughout the years as a Tartan youth player I was fortunate to play with great teammates and coaches. As a result of playing with the same core group of players, I was able to develop a unique chemistry with these players throughout my high school career.
I was very fortunate to skate with Matt Mlynarczyk and Cliff Charpentier. Any success that I achieved can be attributed to playing with these two great hockey players. We had a great understanding for the game, and also an awareness of each other on the ice. Skating with them was one of my favorite high school memories. During my high school career I scored 113 points and was selected to the Honorable Mention All Conference team my junior and senior year. I would like to thank my parents, for they were there from the very beginning and to the end of my career. I can't thank them enough for all they have done.

It is a great honor to be selected for the Tartan Hockey Wall of Fame.
I want to thank all of my fellow coaches, players, and parents for this incredible ride. Special thanks goes to John Humphrey, Jim McElmury, Ray Sierakowski, and Tom Johnsen. They are my friends and my mentors who displayed great character and integrity in developing young men.
The last forty some years of coaching hockey have taken me to Hill-Murray, Woodbury, Park of Cottage Grove, and lastly Tartan. During this ride we often measured success with wins and losses. We have had many big wins, and several heartbreaking losses, but we believe that the big picture of life contains hidden gems that make us accomplished people in all facets of life. We strived to do well in the classroom, to be good citizens, and be good teammates.
My journey in the TAYHA and Tartan High School hockey programs began in 1990 while coaching Mite hockey with Ray Sierakowski. Next, I was given the opportunity to be an assistant coach for Varsity Head Coach John Humphrey from 20002-2006. I was fortunate to be on the staff for the State Tournament entry in 2003-04 and 2004-05. When coach Humphrey retired I teamed up as co-head coach with Jim McElmury from 2006-2013, and upon Jim’s retirement I continued my journey as co-head coach with Ray Sierakowski from 2013-2016.
My journey ended in 2016, but my memories will last a life time. When I reflect on my time at Tartan I can’t help but smile while reminiscing about the great times that I had with so many good people. As I accept this award my appreciation goes out to Brad Martinson and to the very supportive Activities Directors, such as Lee Alger and Bryan Munter. I can’t forget to mention some of the coaches that have done so much for our young men: Jay Moser, Mike Larsen, Darin Johnson, Nick Hanley, Bob Tallirico, Cole Leitch, Mike Linn.
Lastly I want to thank my wife Sue, my daughter Stephanie, and my son Ryan for their support in my life passion.
I am one lucky guy. I have been enriched in so many ways.

Ray Sierakowski Wall of Fame Inductee 2021
My love of this great sport started when I played for the Tartan Youth Hockey Program that my father, Ray Sierakowski, Bernie Montero and Al Lodahl established in the late 60’s. After my years of youth hockey, I went on to play 3 years at Tartan High School and graduated in 1979.
I wanted to pay back to the association that provided me with great hockey memories so I decided to coach a C-Squirt team in 1982, and continued to coach at different Tartan youth levels until 2002. During my 20 years of coaching in the youth program I was very fortunate to coach with some outstanding individuals Steve Purpur, Steve Fuerst, Bill Mlynarczyk, John Lodahl, and many more. During this time I was elected to be a board member and served in that role for 15 years, and was also appointed the Major Team Director for 6 years.
In the mid-90’s I organized and directed a Spring Hockey League which gave many Tartan hockey players the opportunity to develop skills and strengthen their knowledge of the game. This program also served as a fundraiser for the Trophy cases that are displayed here at the Tartan Arena.
After coaching at the youth level I was presented with the next coaching opportunity at Tartan High School to become the J.V. Coach. I coached the J.V. team from 2006-2013. I had two great assistant coaches during this time,Tom Johnsen and Nick Hanley. I would like to thank them both for their commitment and dedication to the program.
From 2013-2016, I served as Co-Head Coach for the Tartan Varsity High School with Steve Romanchuk. This was a dream come true and a goal I had since I started coaching. Thank you, Steve, for believing in me, teaching me, and mentoring me as I fulfilled my dream of coaching.
I’ve been very fortunate to have coached so many great kids, watched them excel in the sport they love and become outstanding young men. I will always be proud of the Tartan hockey program, the kids, parents and all the coaches. I will cherish all the wonderful memories this great sport of hockey provided me both playing and coaching.
I’m honored and grateful to be selected to the Wall of Fame.
