DICK LIEDER

Hockey defenseman and captain, Dick Lieder – #16 – was a member of the first graduating class of Tartan High School.  Dick was the school’s first hockey player to earn ‘All Conference’ honors.  After graduation he went on to play junior ‘B’ hockey and, along with his team, won the Minnesota State Junior “B” championship in 1973.

Tartan High School welcomed the first class of students for the 1970-1971 school year. As a junior that year, Dick and his teammates were required by the Minnesota State High School League to compete at the Junior Varsity level for their first year. The season ended with a record of 13 wins and 7 losses, including the defeat of 3 varsity teams.  Dick scored 11 points for the team that year.  Under the coaching staff of Vic St. Martin and Larry Boyle they were well on their way to competing at a varsity level.

Dick’s senior year, 1971-1972, was the Titan’s first year in the St. Paul Suburban Conference and ended with 3 wins and 18 losses.  This was a time for building and establishing what would be the future of Tartan High School hockey. Coach St. Martin has said that Dick Lieder was one of the cornerstones of Tartan Hockey.

Dick also played football for Tartan High School as an offensive and defensive end.

Dick would like thank his coaches, teammates, family and friends for all the great memories.
